Overview of steel swing bars

Correct use
Steel swing bars better known as the trapeze bars or hand rings are intended for children aged four to twelve years, where the weight is not exceeding sixty-eight kilograms. The trapeze bar is a vertical bar that is attached to the frame of the jungle gym by a rope or chain. A wide range of movements, including balances, drops, hanging, strength and flexibility maneuvers, can be done on the trapeze bar.
All outdoor playground equipment and jungle gyms must be used under adult supervision at all times. Children should always be dressed appropriately when playing outside. Not only for safety reasons, but also to give them the freedom to move, run, jump and climb without clothing that gets in the way.
Shoes should fit well and slippery soles be avoided. Avoid capes, scarves, hoods, baggy clothing, ties or clothes with drawstrings. Children can sustain severe injuries if any part of the clothing becomes tangled in the apparatus.
Also make sure that children use the equipment for the purpose it was intended. If a child hangs upside down on the steel swing bars as many children do, the chances that he or she may slip and fall are almost guaranteed.
The steel swing bars are designed to help develop upper body strength. Children should hang onto the equipment by gripping the bar or rings with both hands. They can pull themselves up and test their strength. If they hang by their feet they have no grip on the rings. This can cause them to slip and fall, landing head first on the ground. Parents need to show their children how each climbing apparatus works and what use it has.
Parental advice helps children to understand why they can get hurt if they don’t use equipment correctly. Under no circumstance should children use outside playground equipment if it is wet or raining.
Maintenance
- Don’t allow children to use the equipment if the temperature drops below zero degrees Celsius or goes above 37 degrees Celsius. If possible remove the equipment and take it indoors.
- Do a proper inspection of all parts on a monthly basis. Check the rings, ropes, chains and all nuts and bolts. Also make sure rust spots are repaired with immediate effect.
