A Variety Of Playground Slides
Children love the idea of a slide attached to a jungle gym as it allows them to imagine that they are flying. Arms thrown up in the air and the wind blowing through their hair lets them feel free of the earth’s gravitational forces if only for a short moment in time. But we need to ensure that our little ones are safe when using a slide and that they cannot fall or hurt themselves in any other way. Playground slides should be made from a smooth non-abrasive material that is slippery enough to allow movement with minimal friction. Metal is ideal for this purpose although plastic and fibreglass are also being widely used to manufacture slides.
The playground slides should have high enough sides to prevent a child from falling off the sides of the structure. Many children prefer to hold onto these sides as they are gliding down the slide so the sides cannot have any protrusions that could cause cuts or scrapes. The end of the slide must flatten out to an even surface and have a long enough run off to slow the child down preventing them from flying off the end. Climbing up the slide is as much fun to a child as sliding down the slide so ensure that the sides can be used as a gripping surface to help them pull themselves up the slide.
Slides come in different lengths and widths designed for different age groups. A long slide with a high gradient will not be suitable for a playground that is used by toddlers. Toddler slides are narrow and will not be appropriate for older children as they will get stuck on the slide.
